THE TOOLS WE USE

Gyro Stabilized Camera Systems . . .

Want absolute image steadiness? Then a gyro-mount is the way to go. These remarkable camera systems are housed inside an aerodynamic sphere mounted to the exterior of the helicopter. They are capable of capturing silky-smooth, eye-dazzling aerials, free of bumps and burps, even at the LONG END OF THE LENS. For example, we can shoot very wide on a stunning beach and move in to a close shot of an automobile, all in one dolly-steady move. Gyro systems, like the new Pictorvision Eclipse, mount on the nose, or the left or right side of the aircraft, predicated on the wind, terrain and shot requirements. Pan is 360º  continuous. Tilt is +30º above the horizon line and -115º below.

All of the camera's normal functions are controlled from an ergonomic laptop control desk at the operator's station, inside the cockpit. The director has a dedicated video-assist monitor, hot-mike intercom and air-to-ground radio communications. The aerial assistant has his own control console to pull focus and handle system technical functions. In most cases, the camera is an integrated part of the system. Although there is a wide choice of lenses, we prefer Panavision's family of Primo zoom lenses.

GYRO STABILIZED PLATFORMS

Gyron Super G (large format cameras, IMAX, etc.)

Gyron HD (HD CAM, RED ONE)

Pictorvision / WESCAM / ECLIPSE (35mm film, HD CAM, RED ONE, SD, 3-D)

SIDE MOUNTS

Side Mounts (aka Tyler Mounts) are used for shooting vistas and rapid action such as chase sequences. They shoot out the side door of a Bell 206 or Astar helicopter.       (more)
